A.R.T. New Stages will present the American premiere of Susan Sontag's only play, Alice in Bed -- a work which picks its subject from a prominent Cambridge family: the Henry James's who lived from 1868 to 1882 in the house that was on the site that is now the Harvard Faculty Club. Susan Sontag has been drawn, perhaps by her own landmark 1978 essay, "Illness as Metaphor," to a study of the pathetic invalid life endured by the youngest member of the James family (and the only girl), Henry James' little sister, Alice.
