Landscapes, streetscapes, exteriors, interiors, painted in watercolor on paper and gessoed panel. Micheal Zarowsky observes, among other things, the Southern Ontario countryside with great clarity, and he presents powerful impressions of all he sees without a hint of sentimentality. This is genuinely original work in the absence of any striving for novelty for its own sake. Here are our waters edges and forest floors depicted in such a way as to emphasize vibrancy, transparency and wonderful relationships that exists between strong shapes and colours.

Whether the painting is of a docked sailboat, half-covered with tarp, oars still lying akimbo, or a lake awash with swans sunning themselves, light seems to always play the starring role. Looking at these watercolors is like looking out of a window on a sunny day, or coming out onto the street after being in a darkened building. You almost want to shield your eyes from the glare, or fish around in your bag for sunscreen. Light here is used as a color in and of itself, amidst the seemingly infinite palate already utilized by the artist.
