My artistic journey got it’s start while living in Laguna Beach, California in the 1960's. I was fortunate to know and learn from Fred Rash Sr., an oil and watercolor painter and gallery owner. I painted part time, mostly watercolors, some oils and pastels. After moving to Elmira, Oregon in 1970, I developed a student-mentor relationship with Jan Zach, Professor of Sculpture at the University of Oregon. I spent time with and helped Jan at his studio there in Elmira. He gave me a new vision and a restlessness. I found a need to create. In 1975 I picked up a copy of Fine Woodworking and found my direction.
