![]() Greek American author and poet Patty Apostolides was born in Pireaus, Greece. Her maiden name was Hypatia (pronounced Ipatia) Koumoundouros. After immigrating to the U.S., she achieved the nickname of "Patty" and it has stuck every since. She has worn many career hats - Author and speaker; research biologist; EKG technician; and data manager in a Bone Marrow Transplant Center. She also is a published poet and has played viola professionally. Born in Greece, and having lived both in Greece and in the United States, she is in a unique position to write about the Greek American experience, both in Greece and in America. She lives in Maryland and West Virginia with her husband and son.
