Norman Darvie was born in the Bronx, NYC and has painted since the age of nine. Norman comes from a family of artists where his siblings, uncles and cousins are also artists, potters, sculptors and jewelry designers. He has mastered techniques in a variety of media: charcoal, pen & ink, pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oils, as well as figure sculpting in clay, wax and stone. Many of his paintings are in private collections throughout the country. Norman has exhibited at many juried pastel shows including the the Pastel Society of America in the National Arts Club in NYC. He won the Exceptional Merit Award at the Degas Pastel Society in 1995 and his painting was featured on the cover of American Artist's "Pastel Highlights" 1996 issue. His oil painting "Ballet of the Stars", was awarded second prize in the 2003 Buckingham Hotel competition and is currently on exhibit in the hotel lounge in NYC.

His bronze sculpture "Nymph and Putti" was selected by both the American Artists Professional League for their 2003, 75th annual exhibit at the Salmagundi Club in NYC and the Allied Artists of America's 2003 annual exhibit at the National Arts Club in NYC. Most of Norman's sculpture work is composed from allegorical paintings and mythological literature. The painting "Ballet of the Stars can be viewed in the "Abstract Expressionism" Gallery and the bronze sculpture "Nymph and Putti" in the sculpture gallery. |
