My work uses color, pattern, and spatial ambiguity to explore confined landscapes. My inspiration is careful observation of the world at close range. Everything that surrounds us follows laws of growth and structure. I expose a flow of energy as it moves through that growth process on colorful, highly patterned canvases that juxtapose flat surfaces, areas of depth, and elements reflected from beyond the canvas to form complex scenes of simplified forms. Systems grow organically meshing with other systems of varying scale. I am fascinated at the complexity of any square foot of ground. To closely examine one small piece is a step in appreciating the majesty of the whole.

Paintings and sculpture by contemporary artist Carolyn Enz Hack. Fine art, oil painting, sculpture, landscape painting, figurative painting in oil, intuitive reality. Light affects how subjects are represented. Light reveals or obscures. The paintings of water subjects give me a chance to explore the surface and depth, as well as reflection in a single moment in time. |
