The Maryland Humanities Council (MHC) brings communities together, promoting conversations about important issues. We encourage Marylanders with different backgrounds and viewpoints to see, hear, and learn more about others and themselves. We believe that only informed, engaged citizens can build healthy, democratic societies. Technology continues to change the way we live, work, and communicate with each other. MHC creates opportunities for face-to-face, human interaction that make it possible for us to understand and accept one another.

MHC promotes humanities programming throughout Maryland, encouraging dialogue that explores human values, strengthens our community, and connects us to the wider world. Beginning in the early 1990s, MHC began to conduct its own public humanities programs, while still awarding grants to support the programming efforts of Maryland institutions and organizations. In 2002, cuts in state funding prompted MHC to reach out to the community for foundation, corporation, and individual support. |
